Dear B.J.: A sneak peek video

For my crowd-sourced curation project, turns out those who took part in helping me choose three (I asked for four in case of a tie) images, steered me correctly. All three are going to be live-and-in-person, both virtually and physically, at the Floyd Center for the Arts. The exhibition is a juried affair called Art Appalachia: 2020, and I am one of the 39 artists invited to exhibit. The show will open on Oct. 17, but I thought I’d provided a sneak peek at the work.

These three pieces are part of a much larger body of work in progress called “Post Cards from the Pandemic: A Pulaski Memoir.” I will post more (probably a lot more) about this throughout the next year. But the quick and dirty description is that the work is postcard-sized photopolymer gravures. A postcard-back label accompanies each one. Between the picture sand the words, they chronicle life in Appalachia during the COVID-19 era, but will also tell a story.

This video gives a glimpse of both the photopolymer gravures and their accompanying postcards. I don’t want to give too much away because, of course, I want you to go to the show when it opens.

Special shout out to my brother, Mark, for inspiring me to do this video. He always finds creative ways to share his music, photos and stories on Instagram.

Update: The three photopolymer gravures that are in this show are now available for purchase:
